DIY Studded Toddler Jeans

So, Eva's cold has gotten a little worse today so I thought we should stay in and take it easy today. Plus I felt I was maybe getting it myself which is even worse as I'm 26 weeks pregnant today and have a sick child to look after as it is, think that would be much worse!

We had lots of cuddles this morning and then I remembered that I had been wanting to stud some of Eva's clothes a while ago. I'm a bit of a fan of the rock chick look anyway and did her jumper last year after doing my own inspired by this post.

Studded Jumper
What you need

  • Here are the tools required. I used a pair of 18-24 month jeans that say Next on the label but are from a Jack and Jill fair yonks ago. I also did a size 2-3 darker denim pair of George jeans, also from a Jack and Jill fair. Both were probably about 50p each. I don't really spend much money on clothes as she grows out of them so fast or lately get wrecked from being outside. I really recommend NCT or Jack and Jill nearly new sales for good quality kids clothes. Eva has a beautiful wardrobe of clothes from these places.
  • Conical studs. I got mine from ebay for £1.20.

You can stud almost any strong seam of clothing though I find jeans work really well.
I went for typical places to stud as inspired by these items.

Images from pinterest.com.

Place the first stud on the seam, stab it through and carefully fold back the prongs with your fingers/nails or a pair of scissors.
Place the next few studs all along this seam.
Voila!
Here it is in pictures.

Eva wearing her 18-24 month newly studded jeans, I added more studs to the bottom of the seam after this picture. I want the studs to actually show when she's wearing them. I'm really happy with how both pairs are looking. Not too bad for £2.20 in total for two pairs of jeans, huh?

There's our rainy sick day antics so far, hopefully tomorrow we're both feeling better and Eva gets a chance to go out wearing her newly studded jeans at Mums and Tots, our usual Thursday gig. Ah the life of a Mum!Dad's away looking at an estate car tonight so hopefully he brings that home if he likes it, then I can worry that bit less about all the things we need to get for new baby!

If anyone has any other suggestions for clothing customization  I'm all ears, were always game to try new things here!

Remember there are only 2 days left to enter the Freshly Picked Moccasins Giveaway, I'm so glad I could share this competition with you as I love Eva's moccs so much.

DIY Hot Air Balloon Lampshade

Back in April when we were beginning to look for bigger places to live I started planning Eva's bedroom. I wanted her to have a totally fun nursery with glow in the dark stars on the ceiling, handy bookshelves for her to put her own books back on. Finally the dream is coming together. I had found a hot air balloon shaped lampshade on eBay but unfortunately it sold before I could buy it. I was gutted as thought it would be beautiful for Eva's room.

Instead I found a few possible ideas to MAKE one! I love a bit of a DIY now! LOL

found from Pinterest searching DIY hot air balloon lampshade
So following this tutorial from Smart School House I started my project. I collect ribbon and knew I could make a go of it. I bought a paper lantern lampshade in pink from eBay. I cut my ribbon to length and glued it to the inside rim as per the tutorial and attached it to a garlic basket from Lidl! ( Thanks Lidl) Finally it was finished!

Ta-dah! Completed hot air balloon lampshade!

DIY Pink Braid Glitz Tee

I am an absolute hoarder of anything pretty and always keep ribbons and bows and such like from presents I receive. I have devoted a whole box to them and even keep old wrapping paper, or anything else I am a fan of.
Well, I have a lot of time on my hands when breastfeeding Eva to sleep at night or for naps and I do spend an awful lot of time on Pinterest. Here is what I found.
I was in love with this top and had to recreate the detailling which is just so precious!
Eva is only in 9-12 month clothes and some 12-18 months are starting to fit now but I am obsessed with her wardrobe and love the fact that she grows out of things so fast, cos it means I can buy her even more and change her look far more often than I can change my own (shallow I know but its not what I'm all about, keep reading I will prove I'm multi-faceted)

Anyhoo I read a couple of tutorials on how to do braids using ribbons (link here) and a couple of tutorials on how to make ribbon flowers (link here)

In the end I made the braid by starting it as if I was doing my own hair, except I pinned it onto an old piece of cardboard and as I made the braid I glued it down and stuck pins in it to keep it down. I let this dry and worked on some tiny ribbon flowers. Once this was all dry I took the pins out of the braid and was left with tiny holes, which I thought I could cover with the diamantes I had saved. Then I simply stuck on a couple of the flowers and stuck it on the top! Tada!

Back

Unfortunately as I said before baby Eva won't be wearing this one for a little while yet as she's only around the 21lb mark and in 9-12 month clothing. Since she started moving around her weight gain is much slower than before, which I don't mind because clothes last much longer than before and she's already a big weight to carry around.
Thanks for reading!
